Multimedia uses in the Classroom

Multimedia in the classroom

Multimedia can be used as a teaching aid, stimuli and a way to make a lesson interaction. You can use Microsoft PowerPoint to create interactive presentations containing text, art, animation, and audio and video elements.
PowerPoint is a useful and well used multimedia tool used within the classroom.
Has a purpose, is interesting a little information with main topics to elaborate on.
Good points of using Powerpoint/Prezzi:
Can extend children thinking
Keep them motivated and engaged
Can get text and picture up very large for whole class learning.
PowerPoint is a wonderful tool for learning in both a student and teacher-directed situation. It can add a new dimension to learning allowing teachers to explain abstract concepts, while accommodating all learning styles.
If the power point is not implemented correctly it can however hinder the lesson. For example, to much information on a slide or bad colour choice can confuse and disrupt the lesson which will make it hard to complete set learning objectives as you are relying on the slide show to key information.

In this session we also looked out how the children can use Power Point also, along with other Multimedia programmes for EYFS and KS1 such as  Clicker 6 to make a picture story. The benefits of this type of learning I found where that The children where getting expose to different resources. This particular activity was extremely inclusive as every child could have an input in making the story from taking pictures to writing/recording audio. The children are also able to be creative and use critical thinking to create something using their own ideas. This type of activity is great for children to develop their collaborative working skills and is especially helpful for those struggling in a particular topic and SEND/EAL.
 Clicker 6:

Prezzi:
Is a cloud based presentation software so it is easily accessible to everyone. It is similar to power point with some more features added to make it more interesting to view as a slide show and also you can be more creative when making your presentation.
Classroom Activity Ideas using Multimedia include:
Using pictures in a slideshow as maths images for children to relate to adding subtracting.
Children can make their own slideshows on their religion and background and use it to teach other children in the class about this.
Power point can be used for whole class story time. using a well known story and then transferred on to a slide show so that pictures and words are enlarged to help with reading skills.
